In 1965, a group of extraordinary women established the Forward Arts Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia.

These distinguished arts patrons, whose dynamic leadership was matched by their determination, transformed the carriage house of the Swan House estate into a restaurant, gift shop, and later an art gallery. Throughout its history, the Forward Arts Foundation has raised significant funds in support of the visual arts and has created an indelible mark on Atlanta’s arts landscape.

The Forward Arts Foundation is a non-profit organization comprised of member volunteers who are supported by professional staff. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting and fostering the visual arts in Atlanta. Members actively promote cultural programming and individual artists through grants and a variety of other programs. Major beneficiaries include many of Atlanta’s major museums such as The High Museum of Art, The Atlanta History Center, The Michael C. Carlos Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Atlanta.

The Foundation operates the Swan Coach House Gallery, Gift Shop, and Restaurant which provide revenue to sustain community grantmaking. In addition, members orchestrate two annual fundraising events: the Forward Arts Foundation Fashion Show in partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue and the Swan Coach House Flea Market. The Swan’s Palette cookbook, written, designed, and developed by members, defines the flavor of the Swan Coach House experience and also provides revenue.
